An escape from the everyday…
I had the pleasure of attending the opening of one of my new favourite bakery and café spots, Maman. The bakery is the second location for co-owners, Benjamin Sormonte, Elisa Marshall, Michelin star chef Armand Arnal, Laure de la Moussaye, and Othman Kacimi. They opened their first spot in New York, which I had the the joy to visit this past winter.
A local textile designer who now resides in New York City, Candice Kaye, is responsible for the one of a kind wallpaper and vintage inspired to-go cups which are worth a visit in themselves. (Keep an eye out she is destined to be a star!). The classic French design is breathtaking and is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
When walking into Maman you feel as though you are walking into the a rustic home in the south of France. Every last detail has been thought of and executed perfectly. From antique mixing tools used for light fixtures to the vintage window panes. One of my favourite details is the white stencil mosaic on the concrete floor, such an imaginative way to bring concrete to life! Even the combination of mixed matched antique and vintage chairs is simply perfect. I dream of having something similar to this in my own home one day. The twinkle lights give it an essence of fantasy and fun while again showing an imaginative way to bring a space to life.
Maman primarily caters to the offices in the neighbourhood, and is only open on weekdays, but thankfully they make themselves available for private parties and events on weekends. I have a feeling this will be the first of many exciting locations to open up in the city! You can basically sum up the food, atmosphere, and décor in two words: Simply Amazing.
